Heald Country House - Our Wedding Part 1!

Heald Country House - Our Wedding Part 1!

Harry and I got married last year in a small wedding at our local church, with a marquee at the Cholmondeley Arms. Now as most bridezillas do, I changed my mind about the venue twice.... mainly for location and if they would allow us to have Isla and Spencer there with us. Yes, they were part of the wedding and walked down the aisle with the children. The next challenge was to find somewhere to stay the night before the wedding that would allow dogs but also gave you that super wonderful feeling of being a bride surrounded by beautiful...

Le Domaine de la Chartreuse - Cahors part 3 - The long, long drive home!

Le Domaine de la Chartreuse - Cahors part 3 - The long, long drive home!

After a couple of days recouping we decided to try and make the journey home. We had booked a hotel an hour from Calais so that Harry could relax before another long journey after the ferry. The hotel of choice was Le Domaine de la Chartreuse which again was fabulously over the top with fleur de lis and toile de jouy everywhere. Domaine de Labarthe - Cahors Part 2 - Bonding with my Mother in Law

Only poor Harry could go away and end up having his appendix taken out! After waiting with Harry until he went down for surgery I then made the journey back from Cahors through the creepy haunted woods back to our gite. In a bit of a state of panic I packed all our luggage and waited for morning so I could contact some B&B's close to the hospital since as we were due to travel home in the morning. How was I supposed to find somewhere that allowed dogs, understood my pigeon French and was close to Harry? I awoke...

La Maison Fleurie - Cahors Part 1 - Trip to a French Hospital

La Maison Fleurie - Cahors Part 1 - Trip to a French Hospital

So, we found ourselves looking for another self-catering holiday in France. Eager to hopefully not recreate Harrys unfortunate incident with being scammed the first time, I took to google and looked for recommended self-catering providers. We ended up using a company called Vintage Travels who aren't super luxury but provide very lovely self-catering properties across Europe. We had been wanting to go to the Lot et Garonne for a while to look at the Bastides, wine country and do some of the beautiful walks. Again, we made the eight-hour drive down to La Theze a very small unassuming cluster of...

The Burton - Cosy Shepherds Hut in November

The Burton - Cosy Shepherds Hut in November

So, this was our first time away in the UK with Isla who at that age was a super mischievous 10-month-old Cavalier pup.... or a walking teddy bear!! She was in and out of everything and some particular unsavoury things when it came to being out in the country walking with her. What could possibly go wrong taking her to the beautiful scenery of Cumbria for a couple of nights in a field surrounded by sheep, cows and horses. I found this little gem of a hideaway on Canopy and Stars who do boutique glamping and boltholes. I was quite...
